Every traditional Jebena begins as a simple piece of natural clay.
Skilled artisans carefully shape the clay by hand into the Jebena's distinctive round base, narrow neck, and curved spout. Once formed, it is left to dry naturally before being fired in a traditional wood-fired kiln.
After firing, the hot Jebena is traditionally covered with sand to cool slowly, helping reduce the risk of cracks. During this process, many Jebenas develop their signature black finish from the smoke and heat. Not from paint.
Because every Jebena is handcrafted, no two are exactly alike. Each one reflects the experience of the artisan who made it and the traditions passed down through generations.
Before a Jebena ever brews coffee, it has already gone through a remarkable journey. From clay to one of the most recognizable symbols of Ethiopian coffee culture.
